Encasulated Retinol

Thanks to cutting-edge technology, the wonder ingredient Retinol can now be stabilised, extending its shelf life and providing consumers with even better skincare results. Called Encapsulated Retinol, this technology is taking the cosmetics world by storm.

The benefits of Retinol

Retinol (vitamin A) is one of the most effective ingredients available in skincare. Retinol stimulates collagen production, accelerates cell reproduction and normalises skin keratinization (vitamin A deficiency).

With regular use, Retinol improves skin elasticity, reducing the look of fine lines and wrinkles, while it moisturises and nourishes the skin. Its exfoliating benefits help to remove dead skin cells that can clog pores, significantly smoothing and softening the skin and helping to prevent breakouts.

Unstable molecule

The difficulty with pure or naked Retinol is its instability. The molecule breaks down easily when it comes in contact with oxygen, light and metal ions, and is likely to interact with other ingredients in a formula. This makes Retinol highly unstable and, until recently, cosmetic manufacturers had to take great care to minimise its degradation.

Thanks to innovative microencapsulation technology, the active molecule can now be protected and remain active for the shelf life of a product.

Microencapsulation, or Encapsulated Retinol, is a process whereby pure retinol is subjected to a laboratory process that encapsulates the active molecule within a microscopic polymeric capsule. The capsule protects the molecule from light, temperature, pH and other oxidizing agents in cosmetic formulations, resulting in younger, clearer and healthier looking skin.

Encapsulated Retinol is released easily with light pressure, such as applying a product to the skin. The single layer polymeric shell collapses and breaks down into invisible particles. Until the moment of application, Retinol remains fresh and potent due to improved stability.
