Smart beauty devices | personal care essentials

Smart beauty provides a significant opportunity for the cosmetics industry.

Handheld beauty devices are forecast to become a staple of beauty bags worldwide.

According to Google, tech-savvy Millennials are looking to technology to support their skincare routines. They demand products that save time, offer value, and provide instant gratification.

And as Millennials account for close to one-third of the world’s population, smart beauty devices have the potential to become personal care essentials.

Across the three core markets that Google reported on – France, the US, and Japan – facial brushes were dominant in search results. (Facial scrubs help remove impurities, dead skin cells, dirt and makeup and prep skin for serums like Serum Essentiel and moisturisers like Moisture Balance Cream.) More skin care products here.

Other beauty devices frequently recurring in searches included: body brushes, facial rollers, anti-cellulite suction cups, and blackhead tweezers.

Millennial insights

To keep you abreast with trends the younger generation is following and help your firm with planning and marketing, we’ve provided insights into Millennial behaviour – courtesy of Transparency Market Research (TMR).

  • The majority of Millennials are image-conscious and seek out novel experiences.
  • Nearly 70% are interested in smartphone-connected electronic devices and beauty tools.
  • Over 60% trust reviews by bloggers, vloggers and social media users over brand reviews.
  • Healthy lifestyles rate highly with this generation.
  • Nearly three-quarters of Millennial males believe appearance is essential. This number is perhaps higher than any time in modern history and provides the perfect opportunity to launch male grooming products.

Older generations

Another trend to watch is the services offered by skin care professionals. While the younger generation is happy using DIY beauty devices, older generations are heading into clinics for non-invasive cosmetic procedures with sophisticated tools.

These high-tech beauty devices are being used to treat acne, sun damage, and wrinkles, remove hair, reduce cellulite, tighten skin, contour bodies, and repair vascular and pigmented lesions. 2% Salicylic Acid Cream and 10% Glycolic Acid Cream can help fight acne.

With the incidence of skin disorders, such as skin cancer, on the increase, and healthcare outpacing the rate of population, TMR predicts that demand for these services can only go in one direction – up.
