Topical probiotics

Topical probiotics

Probiotics have long been associated with good gut flora; however, topical probiotics are trending in personal care lines.

Probiotics, aka friendly bacteria, are live bacterial cultures found in live microbial food supplements and fermented foods, such as yoghurt. Yogurt is recognised worldwide for its health benefits from its probiotics ABC cultures. When ingested, these non-pathogenic micro-organisms help fight illness and disease and may significantly improve a person’s health.

Topical probiotics are now trending in both skin and hair care product lines. This friendly bacteria can influence the makeup of the skin’s microflora to treat skin complaints and promote younger and healthier-looking skin.

Probiotics produce acidic compounds, such as lactic acid, that reduce the skin’s pH. This discourages pathogens, favouring the growth of resident flora.

Products like Probiotic Serum and 10% Probiotic cream are available at our shop. More serums and treatment creams are here.

Probiotics in personal care can speed skin repair by enhancing cellular renewal, increasing collagen production to improve texture, reducing inflammation and redness, and decreasing skin sensitivity.

Combined with an increase in exfoliation and hydration, probiotics minimise the appearance of wrinkles for additional anti-aging results and are suitable for sensitive and dry skin.

Topical probiotics have also been used to treat acne and may even become an alternative to topical antibiotics for treating skin conditions.
